Come Ride With Us
Welcome! Grizzly Peak Cyclists is a bicycle club of about 650 members based in Berkeley, California.
We have club rides every weekend throughout the year, and many weekdays too. Roughly half our rides are in the East Bay; the rest are all over the San Francisco Bay Area, and beyond. Our ride calendar is posted every month on this website and in our newsletter. Our members' riding interests run the gamut. We have novices, intermediates, advanceds, and everything in between. Our rides are correspondingly diverse.
Anyone is welcome on our rides. Each ride is rated to indicate the expected terrain, pace, and distance, so you can choose a ride suited to your abilities. Be sure to review our rider guidelines before your first ride to avoid any surprises. Advance signup is not necessary, but feel free to contact a ride's leader in advance with any questions.
Every year, we make significant donations out of the proceeds raised from our Grizzly Peak Century to organizations and causes that promote or help bicycling in some way — be it advocacy, safety, education, awareness, or the bicycling environment. See our donations page for details.
New website goes live
We deployed this new version of our website in mid March 2015. We have tried to provide everything you need to learn about our club and participate in it. For a limited time, you can still browse our legacy website, but remember it is no longer being maintained, so information there may be obsolete. If you find something there that you think should be migrated to this site, or if you have other comments, please write to . Thanks for your help.
2015 Grizzly Peak Century
Registration is now open for the Grizzly Peak Century to be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015. The annual event is known for its challenging but beautiful terrain and gourmet home-made food. For more information and to register, see our century website.
Grant Petersen at Club Meeting Wednesday April 8
Author, bike designer, and Rivendell founder Grant Petersen is on our program for the April 8 meeting. Grant will discuss his new book Eat Bacon, Don't Jog and take questions about it and other bicycling topics. Potluck starts at 6:30 and the program starts at about 7:15, followed by the business meeting at about 8:00. See your Wheel Truth for the meeting location.
Century-Prep Ride Series Has Started
This spring, GPC is giving a series of nine rides for intermediate cyclists who want to build stamina and increase range. The rides will be on nine consecutive Sundays, March 1 through April 26, and will gradually progress in distance from about 25 to about 55 miles. All are over moderately hilly terrain, similar to that of our Century. Those who complete the series should be well-prepared to ride at least the 75-mile loop of our Century. For more information see our Century-Prep Series page.
Century Volunteers Needed
We are now signing up volunteers to work on the 2015 Century. See our list of volunteer opportunities.
