Spruce, south on Grizzly as far as daylight permits. Ride is

the main climb is up Spruce, with total climbing of 1000 feet in 7
miles. This will be the last ride in the series. With less

Fairfax - Mt Tamalpais
This is a repeat of August 16th's Monthly Metric. It's such a great
ride that I decided to lead it this month. Fairfax to Mt Tam
summit; descend to Stinson Beach, N to Pt Reyes Station, return via
Nicasio. Bring two water bottles and snacks to eat along the way.
We will keep the regroups brief as there is great food and a brew
pub when we arrive back in Fairfax. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at Coffee

from a secluded road on the return. One spot is frequently

Mt Tamalpais Scenic Circle-8 Redux
On a repeat of the ride of Aug 16th, we'll (again) enjoy some of
Marin County's best climbs and most scenic roads, including the
nicely reconstructed Hwy 1 between Muir and Stinson beaches, the
Seven Sisters, Muir Woods and Bolinas-Fairfax Rd. We will pick up
coffee at Pt Reyes Sta, lunch at Stinson Beach, water at Mt Tam
summit and, if needed, Woodacre, but otherwise no stops are planned
for this moderate-but-keep-moving-paced ride. Meet across from the

Alex's Second Saturday Ride
NOTE RETURN TO NON-SUMMER START TIME. Three regular routes, all
pretty hilly, meet at Orinda BART lot at 9:00 a.m. for a prompt
9:15 departure. Sign up for one of 3 rides: 23-mi Larghetto, hilly
but moderately slow; 65mi Allegretto, a bit faster, with a 55mi
alternate option and an 80mi Presto, faster yet. The Larghettos
complete the three bears loop. The Allegrettos climb Pig Farm,
Reliez Valley, Olympic, Danville to lunch and then Norris Cyn and
Redwood. The 55-mi Allegretto Alternate returns from lunch via
Lafayette. Lunch at Diablo Deli in the Diablo Plaza (just past Crow
Cyn). Optional after ride snack on Moraga Way in Orinda near Europa

Return of the Classics: Sonapanoma
Every tourist knows of Napa and Sonoma Valleys, but how can there
be 2 valleys next to each other without some hills in between? Come
explore some of the hills between these famous valleys as we start
in Santa Rosa traverse to Napa Valley via Cavedale, Trinity and Mt
Veeder Rd. A swift roll up Silverado Trail surrounded by vineyards
with ripening grapes takes us to late lunch in St Helena before
climb up Spring Mountain, a road seldom taken (but it won't be
forgotten), back to Sonoma County. Meet at 8:30 a.m. in parking lot
under Hwy 12 across from Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa (Bennett Valley
exit cross street is Brookdale). Contact ride leader about

Novice Series Ride #6: Central Marin Redwoods
Tour the redwoods of central Marin county through Nicasio and have
lunch at the Bovine Bakery on Hwy 1. Return through Olema to
Nicasio and Lucas Valley. The 22-mi ride joins the 40 mi ride in
Nicasio and loops back to Nicasio. There are hills, but we will
ride them gently. For the 40 mi ride, meet 10:00 a.m. across from
the Miller Creek Community Center: exit hwy 101 at the Lucas Valley
exit just N of San Rafael and head W on Lucas Valley Rd. Turn R at
Miller Creek Rd and park on street across from community center.
For the 22 mi ride, meet at 11:00 a.m. in Nicasio for an 11:15
start. From hwy 101, take the Lucas Valley Rd/Smith Ranch Rd exit.
Go 10 mi W to Nicasio Valley Rd. Turn R and go 0.3 mi to a parking
area with convenience store. You will pass the 44-mi riders on
Lucas Valley, so please take extra care. For carpools, meet 45 min
before ride departure time at N Berkeley BART, east side (by Wed

Meet 8:00 a.m. at north terminus of Canada Rd (at Hwy 92). Route
takes us to Woodside, up Old La Honda, down to Pescadero Rd and
over Haskins Hill, to the metropolis of Pescadero for artichoke
bread, along Stage Rd, up Tunitas Creek and down Kings Mountain.

this ride's for you! Ride meets 8:45 a.m. at corner of
Spruce/Grizzly at the bus bench, for 9:00 a.m. start. Route is
Wildcat, SPDR, Bears, and back. If there is interest, I will lead a
local ride of this type on the third Saturday of every month. All
rides will start at or within riding distance of a BART station and

BART to BART via Mt Hamilton
Meet at the Fremont BART at 7:30 a.m. If taking BART, you need to
be on the 7:17 train. Meet at the west side of the station. The
ride is down to San Jose, up and over Mt Hamilton. Then it's up and
down to the lunch stop at the junction, back via Mines Rd and side
roads to Pleasanton BART. Take BART back. Bring enough food and
water as the only stops are the junction and an optional one in
Livermore. There are no bailouts or shortcuts and no SAG support.

Meet at N Berk BART at 8:10 a.m. for an 8:15 start. We'll ride the
9 mi to breakfast at Kaliente and decide on the rest of the ride as
we eat; we often split into long and medium groups. There is also a
25mi option: Dam Rd after breakfast, up Wildcat and down Spruce.
This route may not have an official leader, but it's an easy route

Gazos Creek (off-road)
Meet at 9:45 for a 10:00 a.m. start in Pescadero for a repeat of
the Gazos Creek adventure. See the article in this month's Wheel
Truth. Bring a mountain bike or touring bike with wide-ish tires.
Limited water and access to buy food, so come prepared. I would
like to know ahead of time if you want to come; please contact Phil

interested. Carpooling recommended. Allow about 1 1/2 hours to get
there.

A New Classic: Booneville Boont
GPC had not ventured up to the beautiful Anderson Valley in years
until we remedied that last year. Now for an encore let's repeat it
with a twist - we will reverse the route. Meet in Geyserville for a
roll through vineyards plump with grapes near harvest time to
Cloverdale. Climb on Hwy 128 and this time continue on the rollers
while we enjoy the grandeur of Hwy 128 all the way to Booneville
for an early lunch. Return by climbing Booneville Grade in the
opposite direction. A substantial climb over the Booneville Grade
on Hwy 253 brings us to Ukiah. Parallel the Russian River on Old
River Rd to Hopland. Mt House Road, one of the most scenic
stretches of road anywhere brings us back to Hwy 128 as we roll
back to Cloverdale and on to the the finish in Geyserville. Allow
about 1.25 hr to Geyserville. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at Hwy 128 (Canyon
Rd) exit off of Hwy 101 in Geyserville. Contact ride leader about
carpooling. Optional post ride dinner in Geyserville at one of the

Second GPC Tandem Rally: Pleasanton to Calaveras Rd Summit
and Back
Meet at Crank-2 Tandem bike shop, 5480-9 Sunol Blvd (Raley s
Shopping Center, near Junipero St) parking lot, in Pleasanton
(almost 4 mi from Dublin-Pleasanton BART) at 9:45 a.m., departure
at 10 SHARP. People on singles are also welcome. We'll start
rolling on the flats for about 10 minutes, then we'll initiate the
gradual climb up Calaveras Rd, which is beautiful and shaded. At
the top we'll have a snack (you'd need to bring it from home) for
later to enjoy the twisty but very pleasant descent back to
Pleasanton. After the return to Crank-2 Tandem Bike Shop, we'll go
to a Mexican feast at El Balazo Taqueria (5331 Hopyard Rd, 5 mi
from the end of the ride, and less than 1 mi from Pleasanton BART).
